Making The Most of A Landing. Lining the wooden stairs are brass pots and stenciled porcelain jars. The stenciled wall frame motif in shades of verdant is another result of Jacqueline's creatives streak. (She told us that stenciling this border was very time‐consuming and difficult because of the complex patterns).
One`s attention is immediately drawn to the colourful paper robe hung on the landing. “I spotted it at a funeral parlour in Chinatown and promptly bought at least half a dozen before burnt as offerings”.
Upstairs The ′Asian′ Landing. Collecting a variety of workers hats and prints of old Singapore has proved rewarding. And Jacqueline extended her collection to include bamboo items, a cane doll‵s house (property of 7—year—old Fiona) and shadow puppets.
When the Pizers first moved into this semi‐detached house 2 years ago, Jacqueline was ‘bursting with ideas’. Even if she had to furnish the house on a shoestring budget – scrounging around at garage sales, junk shops and auctions. She has made it homely and used her innovative ideas to bring out the comfort also dignity of the house.

After they‘re restored, Jacqueline gets to work decorating them with stencils, a hobby that’s turned into a sort of cottage industry. Apart from pots and furniture. She′s also ‘framed’ several of her walls with self‐designed stencil motifs.
She admits to having a weakness for Victorian cushion covers and a delicate lacework of any kind. You‘ll discover evidence of this in her sitting room also bedroom. ″Our previous homes in England and Nigeria have always reflected the same character and atmosphere. We think we′ve been almost consistent in our taste, but many people are still amazed when they drop in,″ Jacqueline told us.
Well, we think it‘s great that she‘s managed to retain originality also creativity in an environment where conformity is the order of the day.
Complexion of Romance in the Bedroom. A few deft details like in mirror sheeting ‘to take the place of a headboard‘. And lengths of white Victorian lace and muslin draped across a suspended rod make all the difference in the bedroom. “It′s really a compromise on a four–poster bed which needs many room space.
The white bedspread is actually an old quilt which was bought at a junk shop in London. The pure white theme carries through from the lace cushions to the textured dhurrie.
