Mr. & Mrs. Robert Chan moved into this sprawling 4‐bedroomed bungalow in Merryn Road about two and a half years ago, but were initially disappointed with its internal layout. This being their first house (both lived in apartments before they were married) naturally they wanted it to be special.
Interior designer P.F. Juan was consulted and the house's `face–lift` was soon in progress. Both Robert and his wife, Lee Wah wanted a lot of wood—work on the floor and ceiling. Stained pine beams were hoisted to lie against the painted concrete ceiling while German oak floor‐boards were laid to cover half of the split–level living room floor. Partitions were laid‐up to section off the different areas of the living room. The garden was totally landscaped and the room adjoining the master bedroom was restructured and extended into a TV⁄Video area. Arched windows also prevail throughout their house now.
The structural changes were the work of a professional, but the choice of color schemes and furnishings was left totally in the hand of Robert and Lee Wah. “I love deep shades of pink on upholstered furniture and Robert has many antique heirlooms and likes Oriental pieces. What we’ve done is blend Western and Oriental furnishings with simplicity as our theme,“ said Lee Wah. An attractive and comfortable lived–in environment with a semblance of character is what this couple had in mind and they′re more than satisfied with the results of their labor of love!
