He who postpones the hour of living is like the rustic who waits for the river to run out before he crosses. -Horace-
Open Gallery: This links the guesthouse to the master bedroom on the second level of the main house. It overlooks the fancy gardens ahead and gets a nice view of the fish in the large ponds. The sound of gushing water from the huge aquariums is a refreshing change from the sounds of vehicles in the early hours of the morning. Structural timber is above 79 years old. The long coffee table is designed by jimmy using an unwanted slab of white marble and old wood. Lacquered baskets of varying design from Penang.
Wooden Stairs: The flight of stairs leads to the main house, but not before by‐passing the music room, 15 feet above the ground. The play on space with the stairs makes the house looks larger than actually is. Jimmy likes to takes his guest “two steps forward and three steps backward” in order to view the different section of the house⁏ the garden, music room or the guesthouse.
Also, standing at differing levels of the stairs gives varying vantage points when viewing the home. There’s no enclosed area, but each opens up to another. A huge fig tree with its fruit (which unfortunately couldn't be eaten) is a rare sight and adds to the fun of the place.
Music Room: A sleek baby grand piano graces this music room which opens out to the lovely terraced garden below. By removing the railing and the benches, a stage is created for music and drama performance which could be viewed from the open area of the garden. Overhead, a netting with overgrown Bougenvillas provides shade from the scorching sun, (but not the rain).
Terraced Garden: Dozens of bonsais line the side of this balcony which is just above the entrance of the home. Railing in red adds an enthusiastic touch to the brown and green area. The old and new portion of the home is evident in the two differing roof tiles.
